Demonstration locations
Wuhan, China Competition Location: Wuhan, China
Agro-housing, designed by Knafo Klimor Architects, was designed specifically for Wuhan in central China's sub-tropic monsoon zone. Wuhan is the biggest metropolis in central China and its fifth largest city with over 3,500 years of recorded history. Known as the ‘Hundred-lake city', the water resources per capita of Wuhan are approximately 900,000m3, which is 37 times as much as the whole country's average. Wuhan is divided by the Yangtze and its largest tributary, the Hanshui, into three parts: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, commonly called the ‘Three Towns of Wuhan'. The demonstration building site, Huang Jin Kou or Golden Gate, is located in Hanyang, the city's southwest town at the cross roads of the Junjiu
railway line and the Yangtze River.
The objective is to explore a high-rise apartment building providing affordable, high quality sustainable housing concept for low to middle income families by exploiting steel's structural efficiency and efficiencies of industrialised manufacture and product and system standardisation.
