Winners of the 1st International Architecture Competition for Sustainable Housing, architectenbureu cepezed (for Poland) and Piercy Conner (for India), presented their winning designs before the global steel industry in October. The presentations took place at the International Iron and Steel Institute's Annual Conference and Meetings (IISI-40) in Buenos Aires. Michiel Cohen, cepezed, showed how the shortage of affordable housing drove his firm to create a system that could be adapted to any plan, culture or environment and how that system was applied to KickStart, the proposed building for Poland. Richard Conner showed Piercy Conner's progression in taking ideas gained in its industrial projects for use in designing efficient and economically viable alternatives for residential housing that are expressive of the culture and environment. SymHouse Mk1, the firm's proposed building for India, was unveiled as a culmination of this approach toward responsible housing. The presentations were supported by Living Steel's exhibition on the 1st International Architecture Competition's winning and short-listed firm designs, which attendees browsed after the half-day of presentations.
