Improving technical competence includes improving staff skills of all kinds, improving technical standards of work and better use and adaptation of technology.
HERA's area of activity is best described as metals engineering and the business of adding value to raw metal material. As history of the 25 years of HERA was presented to members at the 2nd Metals Industry Conference in Christchurch in 2004.
The International Zinc Association (IZA) is a non-profit organization, based in Brussels, Belgium, which represents the world zinc industry. IZA provides a forum for the zinc industry to grow and protect the world markets for zinc through collaborative efforts in Technology & Market Development, Environment and Sustainable Development, Health and Communications. Since 2004, the zinc activities of the International Lead Zinc Research Organization (ILZRO), based in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, USA have been integrated into IZA. As of 2007 the activities of regional zinc associations in Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America and South Africa will be formally part of the IZA.
Founded by the zinc industry in 1990, IZA plans, co-ordinates and conducts activities that will build a sustainable future for zinc and for the zinc industry.
The Latin American Iron and Steel Institute –ILAFA- is a civil non-profit association, founded in 1959, in Santiago de Chile, after a group of Latin American steel entrepreneurs gathered driven by the strong desire to achieve the regional integration of the sector.
Its objectives regarding promotion of steel use are: a) succeeding in making steel an efficient alternative for each application, sustained by a strong technical support; b) developing and promoting the innovations in steel uses; c) collaborating in the activities of companies, institutes, and chambers in the promotion of steel uses in Latin America; d) coordinating them in synergy in order to attain a better positioning of steel in its applications. ILAFA maintains a dedicated site for the Latin American Network of Steel Construction: www.construccionenacero.com/
The Indian Ministry of Steel along with the major steel producers of the nation have promoted and established the Institute for Steel Development and Growth (INSDAG) at Kolkata. INSDAG strives to expand the use of steel in the residential, commercial, infrastructure, industrial and rural segments of the construction industry.
However, shortly it will also cover automotive, power, rail and road transportation and irrigation segments. In doing so, INSDAG organises a series of seminars and workshops which act as a platform for all connected to the steel value chain - architects, consultants, structural engineers, steel producers, contractors, fabricators, hardware suppliers, government agencies, specifiers etc. These seminars and workshops are not only the forum for addressing the best practices in steel usage but also focus on identifying the constraints in the usage of steel and removing the impediments.
Korean Society of Steel ConstructionThe Korean Society of Steel Construction (KSSC) was founded in 1989 to promote the use of structural steel and to improve technologies related to steel construction. Since then, KSSC has contributed to technological research, standardizations, publications, international cooperation and information exchange by utilizing the expertise of its member companies and scholarly members, in order to enhance the use of structural steel and to solve problems common in the steel industries with diverse backgrounds, within the field of production, design, fabrication, and construction of steel structures.
To cope with domestic and international social demands and to fulfill its responsibilities, KSSC is a public corporation with Professor Hyo-Nam Cho of Hanyang University as its president. The society currently has 2,850 members.
The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) is an independent, member-based organisation. It is probably the world's largest research and technical organization supporting the use of steel in construction.
The objective of The Steel Construction Institute is to develop and promote the effective use of steel in construction.
Our multi-disciplinary staff of over 40 skilled engineers, architects and IT professionals are experts in their specific fields. They work on both onshore and offshore projects, funded by industry, members, UK national and local government and the EC Commission. The SCI's research and development activities reflect the changing needs of its members, the market place and government directives.
Founded in 1956 when South Africa was still a Union, the Institute was known as The Structural Steel Publicity and Advancement Association Limited. Initially the staff consisted of a single engineer offering his services on a part-time basis with a membership of 18 members.
In 1961 the Institute changed its name to the South African Institute of Steel Construction and more recently to the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction. Today the Institute boasts with a membership of nearly 600 members.
With a history spanning over 50 years, SAISC has been a key player in the field of education and training, advancing the level of expertise to new heights. However the emphasis has always been on promoting the use of steel in construction.
The Singapore Structural Steel Society was formed with the objectives of constituting an association of engineers, architects, industrialists and others concerned with, and interested in, the analysis, design, construction, research and other aspects of structural steels. The Society provides a forum for its members as well as organises seminars, invited lectures, short courses, and publications etc. The Society aims to develop a resource of the best and latest information on the science, engineering and technology of structural steel, and strives to promote the proper use of structural steel under appropriate circumstances, for the benefit of the community and the region.
Since the inception, there has been an upsurge of interest in Singapore towards the consideration of structural steel as an alternative material of construction. The Society has been very active in bringing together all those involved in research, teaching, design, fabrication, manufacture and construction of steel structures in the region. This is made possible through the organisation of seminars, evening talks and publication of quarterly newsletters and annual journals. The Society has also co-sponsored a number of international and regional conferences and has arranged workshops and short courses on various aspects of steel structures. The Structural Steel Fabricators Accreditation Scheme developed by the Society with the full support of the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore was launched in November 2002, with the aim of improving quality, safety standards and raising the professionalism of the industry.
