Living Steel, a five-year programme managed by the International Iron and Steel Institute, today has elected Anand Sen, Vice President (Flat Products) of Tata Steel, as the new Steering Group Chairman for a one-year term.

Anand SennMr. Sen replaces Carl Perry, Regional Manager, BlueScope Steel Limited, whose two-year term ends today. Mr. Perry will continue to serve on Living Steel's Steering Group as BlueScope Steel's representative.

"Carl Perry has demonstrated outstanding leadership of the Living Steel Programme over the past two years. His leadership has set a new example for global steel industry collaboration to deliver effective, responsible housing solutions using steel," said Scott Chubbs, Living Steel Programme Director. "We are eagerly anticipating Mr. Sen's leadership and contributions as Chairman. His knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our continued progress."

Living Steel's Steering Group is comprised of representatives from the programme's current full members, which are Arcelor Mittal, Baosteel, BlueScope Steel, CELSA Group, Corus, Erdemir, IMIDRO, Posco, Ruukki, and Tata Steel.

The Steering Group appoints Zigang Li of Baosteel as Vice Chairman Matthew Teague of Corus Group is appointed Chairman of the Competition and Demonstration Project Group. Thierry Braine-Bonnaire and Pascal Ponty, both of Arcelor-Mittal, continue in their positions as Chairmen of the Market Intelligence Project Group Chairman and Communications Projects Group respectively.

On behalf of Living Steel, Mr. Chubbs paid a warm tribute to the exiting chairmen: Carl Perry, Edwin Basson, Anup Sahay and Colin Ostler, whose combined leadership guided Living Steel through its early stages to an established programme.

Biographical Information on the Mr. Anand Sen

Mr. Anand Sen is currently the Vice President (Flat Products), Tata Steel. Mr Sen is a metallurgical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, joined Tata Steel in 1981 as a graduate trainee in the scientific services division of the company. He is also a post-graduate in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. Mr Sen has worked in various capacities in Tata Steel and has vast and rich experience in marketing and sales, including special steel.

Mr. Anand Sen has contributed in many technical papers and journals. Mr. Sen was awarded the Essar Gold Medal in 2004 at Indian Institute of Metals. He is also an active member of many academic bodies including the executive committee of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata Chapter, International Iron & Steel Institute packaging committee, Project Review Committee of Institute for Steel Development and Growth and also the IIM national committee for resource mobilization.
