Living Steel Seminar Draws Architects

Warsaw, 31 March 2009 - Why it is worth using steel solutions in housing? What are key advantages of steel constructions? How can steel solutions become more popular in Poland and worldwide?
These were the most important questions to be answered by the participants of the seminar organized by Living Steel – a platform of cooperation for the world’s largest steel producers. The event held in Warsaw on 25 March 2009 gathered representatives of companies and organizations from the steel industry as well as architects, constructors and developers. The invitees also included Polish academics and journalists.

Scott Chubbs, Living Steel Programme Director, introduced the main ideas of the programme and global achievements to date. He also showed innovative steel-based housing designs, which were winners of the Living Steel International Architecture Competitions for Sustainable Housing, annual competitions organized by Living Steel since 2006. One of the buildings will be built in Warsaw. The conception of its design was presented by Michiel Cohen from cepezed.
ArcelorMittal, Corus-Tata Steel, Ruuki and Saint-Gobain, all cooperating within the Living Steel programme, presented cutting-edge steel solutions and latest technologies. Representatives of Euroconstruction and Amtech shared their experience in steel-based housing development in Poland.
The seminar was led by Andrew Ogorzalek, Polish architect with over 30 years professional career in the UK, director of London-based PCKO Architects. He also joined the list of seminar’s speakers, presenting modular solutions applied in a steel housing project implemented by his firm in Krakow, Poland.
The Living Steel event in Warsaw was a unique opportunity for construction and design professionals to get updated on the current market situation in Poland and worldwide. They exchanged views, shared experiences and made new business contacts. The next Living Steel seminar will be held in fall 2009 in Shanghai.
