Good Detailing Practice for Painted Structures
This document is a speech given by the author at the North American Steel Construction Conference.

1. WHY DO COATINGS FAIL? identifies the conditions that cause the greatest paint failure risks.
2. A look at the details that cause fabricators and paint contractors the most
problems and are candidates for corrosion failures.
3.Suggestions for good detailing, fabrication, cleaning and painting practices to follow to reduce the risk of failure.
4. Al look specifically at trusses since these structural members contain most of
the offending details in one way or another to demonstrate some of the options.
5. Summary to insure trouble-free structures in the future.
