Life at the highest levelZaha Hadid

Born in Bagdad in 1950, Hadid graduated from the American University in Beirut with a BA in mathematics. She then moved to the United Kingdom where she began to study architecture in 1972.

Five years later she obtained her diploma and started to work with Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis at OMA. She was appointed a guest lecturer at Columbia University, and in 1994 she accepted the chair of design at Harvard University. Hadid still lives and works in London where she established her own practice in 1980.

Hadid has received many prizes for her work including the 2004 Pritzker Prize (the Noble Prize for architects) for her design of the Contemporary Arts Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2007 she was awarded the Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture. Her most famous works include the Phaeno Science Centre in Wolfsburg, Germany and the Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck, Austria.. Music fans may also remember her concert stage sets for the Pet Shop Boys.
