Pekka Pakkanen and Risto Huttunen will represent Huttunen-Lipasti-Pakkanen (H-L-P) Architects at the final in their hometown of Helsinki. The careers of both architects have been heavily involved with single-family housing, from small huts to complete homes. The firm has designed pre-fabricated housing systems for various companies including Finnish steel producer Ruukki.
H-L-P begin their design process with the questions: where, why and how. The firm believes that seeing individual buildings and areas in a larger context is vital to find solutions for the massive challenges that both mankind and our planet face in the near future.
Pekka Pakkanen has been in charge of the steel studio course at the Helsinki University of Technology Architectural Faculty since 2003. The course covers various design tasks including steel housing systems and steel plate structures.
Risto Huttunen has led the wood studio course, also in the Architectural Faculty of Helsinki University of Technology, since 1997. The course has designed and built multiple small experimental buildings in Helsinki.
