Short listed FinalistFirm: Peter Stutchbury Architecture

Location: Sydney, Australia

Peter Stutchbury Architecture believes that our connection with nature is not just a physical relationship; it exists at all levels of human behaviour. Careful, considered, connected architecture breeds a respect, not just for self, but for the very essence of life and the environment. This is both a conscious and subconscious state of mind. The physical environment is the veil that exists between lifestyle and place; the heavier the veil the less the place.

The firm believes that living architecture understands that relationship. It discards misunderstanding and strives to connect at a variety of relevant associations – people, activity and place. This will fundamentally differ but in effect is an awareness that informs respect.

The team from Peter Stutchbury is well known for their ability to produce sustainable architecture and integrating that work with a living building. The firm has practiced this approach since 1979, an approach they see as fundamental in a world where there is a tendency toward want against need.

Peter Stutchbury Architecture will be represented in Helsinki by Peter Stutchbury and Richard Smith.
