Happiness Gardens, China
In late 2007, Baosteel announced plans to develop China’s first all-steel residential construction in Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province.

Only months later in 2008 the Wenchuan earthquake devastated the area: overnight, Baosteel’s groundbreaking project became China’s first post-disaster restoration and reconstruction project.
Happiness Gardens, as the project was named, reached completion in 2010.
Happiness Gardens demonstrates the ideal choice for reconstructing earthquake-affected communities. Incorporating new anti-earthquake technology known as ‘steel plate shear wall with silts’ (SPSWS), the safety of buildings that use this is considerably improved. In addition, Happiness Gardens also offers considerable energy-saving features, a better living environment and less resource consumption.
The first of over 1,300 families in the area needing resettlement moved into Happiness Gardens in August 2010.
