Review this team’s competition entry

ECD has 27 years of experience in designing sustainable, energy-efficient buildings that achieve low-running costs, are low-impact on the local and global environment, and have flexible and robust designs that will sustain generations of use. The firm’s work covers six main sectors: new build housing; housing refurbishment including tower blocks; master planning and consultation; education; commercial/retail and arts; and leisure and healthcare buildings.

From the outset ECD likes to agree a clear sustainability strategy for each project, one that identifies targets that are realistic and achievable. They adopt a holistic approach to sustainability, embracing social and economic as well as physical issues. They believe buildings must be capable of adapting to changing requirements in the future and flexibility is a key design issue. ECD are keen to ensure that services are easily accessible for future upgrades and that emerging technologies such as photovoltaics can be retrofitted easily.

David Turrent studied at Manchester University and qualified as an architect in 1974. He worked in local government and private practice and was a founding partner of ECD in 1980. He is responsible for numerous award-winning schemes in the housing and education sectors and is a member of the RIBA Sustainable Futures Committee.

Daniel Jenkins completed his Part III in 2001 at Kingston University having focused on community social buildings and spaces. As an Associate, Dan is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of specific ECD project teams including the allocation of tasks for the project architects and assistants.
