The Laboratory of Contemporary Architecture (LCA) aims to apply ecological materials (such as wood, brick, natural stone and metal) wherever appropriate. The firm uses metals in different applications in almost every exterior or interior project they undertake. The use of metal includes typical applications such as bearing structures, walling and transom bars. However, metal is also used in both chunky and delicate decorative elements.

LAB defines its style as minimalist, high-tech, rational ecological architecture—the new modern. Their work consists of public dwellings and complexes, private residences, and interior design of both public and private spaces. The firm is also involved in graphic and photo design.

The Laboratory of Contemporary Architecture is based in Novosibirsk, Russia. The firm was founded in 1996. The team for Helsinki consists of Grigory Kuzhelev and Galina Budnikova.
