Take a look at all 18 designs that were shortlisted for Living Steel’s International Competition for Sustainable Housing.

Rather than a pre-determined design, Schulitz and Partner produced a building method of steel construction, emphasizing sustainability and adaptability to different and changing needs. The proposed building method is based on the concept of an open system, in which alternate building elements are introduced according to different needs and actual market conditions.
The building is marked by light-weight, low-mass construction with a highly insulated envelope. East and west facades are closed and protected against heat gain due to low sun angles by a second reflective skin, with ventilation space. The roof is equally protected by a second umbrella-like layer against thermal loads, shading the roof whilst creating a livable roof-deck area.
