Schulitz and PartnersSchulitz + Partners had a big design challenge in developing this project in Germany. The building is situated in an area for single family houses with a very strict building regulation: pitched roofs with red roofing tiles, exact height specifications and a rectangular floor plan.

The challenge was to develop a steel frame system that would comply with the regulations, blend in with the neighborhood, but maintain its own identity due to the type of construction. The building is situated at the boundary of the building area, allowing an amazing view to the neighboring meadows though the large glazed facades. At the same time, privacy is maintained.

TheSchulitz and Partners steel construction is visible as a design element. Together with the glazed faced, the building is open, generous and well daylighted.

Due to the use of steel as the main construction element, the on-site building time was reduced dramatically. The use of the steel framework allows great views and leads to interaction from inside to outside. Steel minimizes the amount of space for the building structure and maximizes the usable space.

The light weight steel construction uses minimized steel sections, thus minimizing the resources required for construction. Solar gains in winter through glazed facade leads to reduction of heating costs. The building’s natural cross ventilation in summer (stack effect) prevents overheating of building and eliminates the need for air-conditioning.
